Several people have inquired as to how the chickens are faring through the winter, especially this notably colder and snowier winter. They are honestly tough girls. We put bales of hay around their hutch, plastic over their fenced run and when the weather got below zero we put one small ceramic heater bulb (reptile type of bulb) out in their house. They get out in the yard every day and even more impressive, they continue to lay an egg every day.
Today was a little warmer and some snow melted the past couple of days so they found some patches of ground to peck around at. I also gave them the guts & seeds of a butternut squash. They love the treats and always come running if they think you’ve got something for them.
