I’ve taken up a project making Zach custom button down shirts. The line will be named Le Canard which, as well as being duck in french, is also the name of the first seaplane in history. Store bought shirts tend to be way too baggy around the torso and often too short in the sleeves. This is the pattern for the shirt and the mock-up that we used to fit it so it lays smoothly over his shoulders. This book, Shirtmaking by David Page Coffin has lots of great tips.
This project is, to some extent, a response to what seems like the general population’s search for the unique and custom item rather than the mass produced, mass fitted item. It also begs the question of who carries these skills on. Who will be making things in the future?
